The Scheme has been designed using the document Being Well – Doing Well 2004. This sets out the framework for a Health Promoting School through 6 key characteristics:

  • Leadership and Management
  • Ethos
  • Partnership Working
  • Curriculum, Learning and Teaching
  • Personal, Social and Health Education Programmes
  • Environment Resources and Facilities

The Scheme provides a structured approach to becoming a health promoting school. This approach supports schools in recognising, existing good practice planning and taking responsibility for future action to improve the health of the school in all aspects of its work. This positive and dynamic approach to health provides a foundation for the development of health promotion and health education.

There are two layers in the path to achieving Health Promoting School Status:

  • Core Criteria

This is the initial preparation phase to ensure that schools have the systems in place to support their ongoing development as a health promoting school.

  • Accreditation

Once your Core Criteria has been submitted and ratified by the health promoting school team you will be ready to move onto Phase 2.

Health Promoting Schools Fife acknowledge the contribution included in the resource from Edinburgh and the Lothian’s healthy school and resource.
